Overview
Windows 7 is becoming more common, especially when customers upgrade hardware. Keystone versions prior to 2.5 have several issues when installed on Windows 7:
- The user must have Administrator rights to properly install Keystone
- We recommend that all Keystone users have Administrator rights which causes concern for some customer IT departments
- Editing certain Keystone files without Administrator rights can result in unexplainable behavior
- Placing data files in a folder under C:\Program Files violates Microsoft's Windows guidelines (for any version of Windows)
In an effort to address these concerns, Keystone 2.5 will:
- Allow a "standard" user to initiate the Keystone install, however the user will need Administrator credentials to proceed
- Allow "standard" users to run Keystone with no issues
- Allow editing of certain Keystone files by any user without side effects
- Place data files into the Microsoft recommended folder for Application data files
Default Folder Locations
Keystone 2.5 (and higher) uses different folders to store certain files than previous versions of Keystone. This is necessary to improve compatibility with Windows Vista/7/2008 which do not allow "standard" users to write to the C:\Program Files folder. In an attempt to move closer to Microsoft guidelines for Windows applications, the new folders are in different locations depending on which version of Windows the customer is using.
The table below lists the folders used in old (prior to 2.5) versions of Keystone and in new (2.5 and higher) versions of Keystone.

Updating Existing Systems to 2.5
- Application and Program files will be placed into the C:\Program Files\GivenHansco\CC directory (the update will maintain the existing Application folder.)
- Backup files will only be moved to the new folder listed above if there is no alternate backup location specified in the CCWCONFIG.INI file.
- Form, Icon and Settings files will be moved to the new folders listed in the table above.
- Database files will only be moved to the new folder listed above if they are currently stored in C:\Program Files\GivenHansco\CC\CUST\DATA.
- Log and Export files will not be moved. New Log and Export files will be created in the new folders listed in the table above.
- Old versions of Keystone had a few other folders under the Cust folder (Bin, Lib, Scripts, Template). These are no longer supported and will not be moved.
Installing the Keystone 2.5 Update on Windows 7
