About Unit of Measure Maintenance
Keystone systems come with most common Units of Measure configured and populated with proper translation values. Unit of Measure File Maintenance allows you to establish new values that may be needed for your operation. The key values such as U/M Type and U/M Ratio will greatly impact how your system operates so take great care to understand and test any manually entered U/M values or contact Keystone customer support.
Essential Fields

- Expanded U/M This can be printed on Tickets and other forms in place of the 2 character code.
- Subtotals Y/N This combines with product class subtotal flag to control which U/M totals should print. When both the Product Class and U/M Subtotal flags are "Y" the total will print. For example this is used to give total CY sold of Concrete classes on the Pre-Billing Audit List.
- U/M System English/Metric
- U/M Type The type (e.g. volume, weight etc.) is used in the conversion of one U/M to another. See below for an expanded explanation.
- Alt System U/M Specifies if switching from one U/M system to another (e.g. English to Metric) which U/M would be preferred.
- U/M Type Ratio Used for the conversion calculation from one U/M to another when both units are of the same type. For each Unit of Measure type one base U/M is assigned a value of 100 and all other U/M ratios are based on that with the smaller U/M having the higher value. This methodology which may seem reversed of what is expected is used to increase accuracy. Look for many examples in the table of predefined U/Ms.

- Time e.g. Hours, Minutes
- Area e.g. Square Feet, Board Feet
- Unit Specific countable units (Each, Loads, Dozen, Gross)
- Container Countable units that can vary by product (e.g. Box, Pallet, Crate, Bag)

Unit of Measure Conversion
Keystone supports the translate from one unit of measure to another for certain operations such as purchase receipts and when setting up and sending Mix Designs to batch controls. The method of conversion will vary depending if the two units have the same or different unit of measure types.
Converting within the same Unit of Measure Type
When converting within the unit of measure type Keystone relies on the conversion ratio in the Unit of Measure table and ignores any product specific translation. For example if a mix design specifies cement in Pounds and the product is setup in Tons keystone will compare the two U/M Type Ratio fields.

Converting between different Unit of Measure Types
When converting from one unit of measure type to another Keystone relies on the product specific conversion established on the U/M Conv tab in product maintenance.
Example: A product has a unit of measure of EA (unit type UNIT) and is purchased by the Case (CS) (Unit type CONTAINER) and in product maintenance 350 EA is set to 1 CS. If a purchase receipt is entered for 4 CS of this item Keystone will convert it to 1400 EA for internal inventory purposes.
